Historic Big Boy Steam Locomotive Coming to Pottstown
Downtown Pottstown is excited to welcome the historic Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive on Thursday, July 2, 2026 for a 15-minute whistle stop.
The train is currently scheduled to stop in Pottstown at 3:30 PM. Union Pacific has advised us to expect approximately 3,000 - 4,000 visitors, including train enthusiasts, families, residents, and visitors from across the region.
To help welcome visitors safely, Hanover Street will be closed from Industrial Boulevard to High Street from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Food vendors will be located along the Hanover Street closure area.
The best public viewing area will be Borough Parking Lot 1. This lot will be closed at 7am on July 2nd.

For the safety of all visitors, attendees must remain at least 25 feet away from railroad property at all times.
Please choose your viewing side by 2:00 PM. For public safety, railroad crossings will be closed, and visitors will not be permitted to cross the tracks once closures are in place.
